The Palisades Pack by Ruffwear is a durable, full-featured dog backpack that is ideal for multi-day adventures. It's saddlebags can be removed so you can use the harness on it's own or for rest stops.
Measure around your dog's girth/chest at the widest point behind their front legs.
Measure snugly but not tight - it should be snug but still allow you to fit a finger between the strap and your dog's body.
It is important to size correctly so the pack stays stable on your dog's back.
Is your dog's chest 'exactly' on the cut-off number between sizes and a stable weight/fully grown? If so, Ruffwear recommends choosing the smaller size.
For example, if your dog's chest is exactly 69cm which is the cut-off between a Small or Medium. Ruffwear suggest trying the smaller size as long as your dog is fully grown, a stable weight and you have measured the chest correctly.

Made from a rugged ripstop nylon, the Palisades Pack is a premium back-country dog pack that is loaded with features including detachable saddlebags, two water bladders and a load compression system.
The pack has a strong padded back handle and two leash attachment points. Multiple pockets and an external daisy chain store and organise your dog's hiking essentials and there are also two collapsible hydration bladders that come with the pack.

Removable saddlebags/panniers - the saddlebags attach to the underlying harness system using aluminium & Hypalon fasteners so they can easily be removed at rest stops or river crossings.
Web Master Harness frame - modified with clips to attach the saddlebags, the underlying Web Master Harness has 5 points of adjustability (2 across the belly, and 3 at the chest) to ensure a great fit and pack stability on your dog
BPA-free hydration bladders - Two 1-litre collapsible BPA-free water bladders are included and fit easily into the side pockets so your dog can carry their own water.
Padded back handle - centered on the back is a handle that you can use to assist your dog up and over obstacles
Two lead attachment points - there is a single anodised, aluminium V-ring in front of the handle and another webbing loop further back

Sizing the Ruffwear Palisades Pack
Available in 3 sizes, the Palisades Pack is designed for mid to large sized dogs who are physically fit. **If you need a pack for a smaller or less fit dog, check out the Approach Pack or Front Range Day Pack.
Measure around your dog's girth/chest. The pack should fit snugly so that it does not shift and stays stable. If your dog is right on the cut-off between sizes, Ruffwear recommends sizing down.
Do not recommend sizing up just to get extra capacity.
* PLEASE NOTE: it is not recommended that your dog carry more than 20% of their body weight in their dog pack - this includes the weight of the pack & the contents.
If your dog is new to dog packs, start with an empty bag and gradually, over a period of days or weeks, work up to a heavier load as your dog gets accustomed to wearing the pack.

Washing Instructions
Pack: Secure fasteners and remove water bottles. Hand wash cool water with mild detergent. Hang dry.
Bottles: Hand wash with dish soap. Rinse thoroughly and air dry. Store with caps removed.

I bought this for my vizsla who is doing a backpack trial. Love the fact that I can take the pack off easily at stops. Very adjustable sides so I can make it more compact or expand it. Also no chafing.

Great Backpack
Amazing backpack has a lot of adjustment and fits my dog nice and snug.
Only reason for the 3star rating is the chest protection (brush guard) does not fit the pack anymore once you adjust the straps to the dogs size.
We love the harness! Our furry girl is comfortable and looks super stylish in her new get up. We have tried other harnesses but found this to be the best by far, its sit well on her body that allows for stability and comfort. We have gone for hikes and the handle, and areas and the way the harness fastens allowed us to easily hold on to her to make sure she is safe and secure when needed. :) 5 Stars
Excellent lightweight raincoat. The XS size is slightly large on my Tibetan Terrier, but as she’s only 10 months I expect it will be perfect once she’s full grown (around 10-11 kg). Very impressed that I was contacted after ordering to check sizing as the size id ordered was different to a previously purchased harness. Amazing service.
Great length and super lightweight, but very strong even when the dog pulls suddenly.
Doesn’t tangle easily, even when walking two dogs (Tibetan Terriers approx 12 kg each). Love the clip attachment on the handle.
Using it on a frenchie that has had cruciate ligament surgery and has to be on a leash at all times. I bought the harness as well on the recommendation of a dog physio.
